Thomas Frank Faces Early Challenges as Tottenham’s Head Coach

London, England – Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is encountering his first challenging phase after an impressive start to the season. Since his appointment, Spurs have recorded three successive draws in both the Premier League and Champions League, a situation that raises concerns as the team’s ambitions for elite performance remain high.
Despite the recent setbacks, Frank has instilled a sense of resilience in his new squad, a contrast to last season under former coach Ange Postecoglou. Tottenham’s ability to come back from deficits demonstrates a fighting spirit that had previously been lacking.
However, an unsettling trend emerged from Postecoglou’s tenure: Spurs have lost seven consecutive matches right before international breaks since November 2023. The defeats began with a 2-1 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers, a result that marked the end of a strong start for Postecoglou’s regime.
The defeat against Wolves was notable, as Tottenham had initially taken the lead thanks to an early goal from Brennan Johnson. Yet, two stoppage time goals from Wolves led to their loss, and the absence of key players due to red cards compounded the team’s struggles, causing them to winless in the following matches.
The subsequent games continued the trend. Tottenham’s inconsistency has been highlighted by defeats that came unexpectedly, including a 3-0 loss to Fulham and a 2-1 home defeat against Ipswich Town, demonstrating issues in maintaining form.
“It’s like a weird thing last year, and not just thinking stats,” Frank remarked during a press conference. “With these stats, it’s up to us to treat it like a game where we are extremely focused.”
With a crucial match against Leeds United on the horizon, Frank expressed his hopes to break the cycle of losses before international breaks. A win would not only boost morale but could also signify a turning point for the squad as they seek to find their footing this season.
