Three Players Share Lead at Baycurrent Classic After First Round

Yokohama, Japan – A sponsorship title change at the 2025 Baycurrent Classic has led to a first in tournament history, with three players tied for the lead after the opening round. Brian Campbell, Bud Cauley, and Max Greyserman each shot a 4-under 67 at Yokohama Country Club.
All three players secured their positions at the top of a tightly contested leaderboard. Campbell and Cauley were already inside the top 50 of the FedEx Cup standings, while Greyserman is aiming to break into the Aon Next 10 qualifying for high-stakes events next year. “I really like the golf course. It’s different than last year’s,” said Greyserman, referring to the course’s unique features that present a creative challenge.
Just one stroke behind the leaders are Adam Scott and Sahith Theegala, both of whom recorded first-round scores of 68. Theegala, who has struggled with injuries this season, showed promise by securing five birdies and only one double bogey. “Played really well, hit the ball great from the start of the day,” Theegala said, pleased to find form again after a difficult season.
The players at the top were noted for their adaptability to the windy conditions, with Campbell remarking on his strategy to save pars and capitalize on favorable holes. He expressed contentment with his strong finish, remarking, “It was just a solid round that turned into really good at the end.”
Meanwhile, veteran Adam Scott also started strong with four birdies in his first six holes. He acknowledged the challenges of the wind but remained optimistic about his performance, stating, “I’m pretty happy with that score in this condition.”
Xander Schauffele, the world No. 4, is trailing behind at even par after a round of 71. He is motivated to climb the leaderboard over the coming rounds, aiming for his first victory since winning the Claret Jug.
The competition remains fierce as the tournament progresses, with several players closely contesting for the championship.
