DETROIT — Detroit Tigers‘ top prospect Bryce Rainer will miss the rest of the 2025 season due to a dislocated right shoulder. Rainer suffered the injury while diving into a base during a game with Class A Lakeland on Tuesday.

After consulting with multiple medical professionals, Rainer has decided to undergo season-ending surgery. The Tigers announced the decision to the public, emphasizing the severity of the injury.

Rainer, who is turning 20 next month, was selected by the Tigers in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft, being the 11th overall pick. He is regarded as one of the franchise’s top prospects, ranking No. 3 among Tigers players and No. 45 in Major League Baseball according to MLB Pipeline.

In 35 games with the Lakeland Flying Tigers, Rainer posted a batting average of .288, showcasing his potential with five doubles and five home runs across 149 plate appearances. He was in strong form leading up to his injury, hitting .359 in his last ten games, with two home runs and eight RBIs.

Before his professional career, Rainer played at Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, a school known for producing notable major league talent. He was praised for his desire to improve as a hitter, transitioning from a two-way player to focusing on his offensive skills.

The Tigers are looking forward to Rainer’s recovery and expect him to fully participate in spring training next year. This update comes as the organization continues to monitor his progress closely.
