Timberwolves Rally to Even Series Against Warriors in Dramatic Game 2

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Timberwolves bounced back in Game 2 of their Western Conference semifinal series against the Golden State Warriors, winning 122-102 on Thursday night at the Target Center. The victory tied the series at 1-1 and showcased a fierce performance led by Mike Conley, whose competitive spirit shone through despite his reputation for being a quiet player.
Conley, known for his sportsmanship, displayed rare intensity, notably after an impressive defensive play against Warriors shooter Buddy Hield. After forcing Hield into a shot clock violation, Conley turned to his bench and exclaimed, “I’m locking that s— up!” The Timberwolves’ bench erupted in support of their veteran guard.
The Timberwolves entered the game determined to set a strong defensive tone, especially with Warriors star Steph Curry sidelined due to a strained hamstring. Conley, 37, took on the responsibility of guarding Hield, who had scored 24 points in Game 1. Timberwolves coach Chris Finch emphasized the importance of a strong start, and Conley’s effort helped Minnesota jump out to a 13-0 lead in the first four minutes.
“I just wanted to really show the guys I’m going to do whatever I can for the team,” Conley said. His determination paid off early, as Hield managed only three shot attempts in the first half.
The Timberwolves’ defense stifled Golden State, limiting them to just 15 points in the first quarter and maintaining a dominant lead throughout the game. Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards praised Conley’s energy, saying, “Bite-Bite brought all the energy tonight, and we just fed off of it.”
Conley finished the game with six points and two assists, but his defensive leadership was key in allowing Minnesota to control the game. The Timberwolves forced 20 turnovers and held the Warriors to 28 percent shooting from three-point range.
Despite the victory, Coach Finch noted, “We looked a lot more like ourselves,” indicating that the Timberwolves needed to maintain their defensive identity going forward. “If we’re going to have a chance, we’re going to have to defend at a high level for four quarters and be consistent with it,” Conley stated after the game.
With both teams traveling to San Francisco for the next two games, the Timberwolves are aware they must continue their intensity. The series is now tied, and both teams will look to gain an advantage in the following matchups.
