Tokyo’s Grand Hammer Opens with Unique Entertainment, Actor Yoshizawa Questioned in Break-In
TOKYO — A new nine-floor entertainment complex, Grand Hammer, has opened in Tokyo‘s Shimbashi district, offering a unique blend of traditional and modern attractions, including a 20-tonne aquarium featuring ama divers, or “sea women.” The venue, developed by Tokyo-based Hamakura Produce, aims to attract both locals and tourists with its diverse offerings, from geisha performances and traditional cuisine to saunas and DJ sets.
The Grand Hammer site, which opened in late November, is designed to provide a seamless experience across its nine floors. One of its standout features is the massive aquarium, where visitors can watch ama divers demonstrate their traditional seafood harvesting techniques. The venue also includes dining options, cultural shows, and modern entertainment, making it a one-stop destination for a variety of experiences.
Meanwhile, Tokyo Metropolitan Police are questioning actor Ryo Yoshizawa, 30, in connection with a break-in at a neighboring apartment in Minato Ward. The incident occurred on December 30, when a resident reported that Yoshizawa had entered their apartment without permission. During questioning, Yoshizawa stated, “I was drunk and my memory is unclear,” adding that he entered the apartment because he needed to use the bathroom. Police believe the actor mistakenly entered the wrong unit while intoxicated.
Yoshizawa’s agency issued a statement apologizing for the incident, saying, “We have already apologized to the neighbor for the inconvenience and trouble we caused. We would like to sincerely apologize to [Yoshizawa’s] fans and related parties for the concern and inconvenience we have caused.” The investigation is ongoing.
The Grand Hammer project reflects Tokyo’s ongoing efforts to revitalize urban spaces by transforming underutilized areas into vibrant hubs of activity. With its mix of traditional and contemporary attractions, the venue is expected to become a popular destination for both domestic and international visitors.
