Abu Dhabi, UAE

Tom Aspinall is set to defend his heavyweight championship against Ciryl Gane this Saturday at UFC 321. The fight comes as Aspinall, who boasts a dominant streak in the octagon, attempts to prove he can also endure a lengthy bout.

During media day, Gane acknowledged Aspinall’s striking power while expressing his intention to prolong the fight. “I can manage my distance and go to the second round,” Gane said. “But if I wanted to, I could finish quickly in the first round.”

Aspinall, however, has finished all his past three opponents in less than 90 seconds, raising questions about his ability to go the distance. “Did he actually use the word deep waters?” Aspinall chuckled in response, suggesting a quick finish is more likely based on his previous fights.

Since Jon Jones retired in June, Aspinall took over as the undisputed champion. Many fans view Aspinall’s title defense as straightforward, but he emphasizes the need to respect Gane’s skills. “Every fight I go into, I really respect my opponent, especially Ciryl,” Aspinall stated. “He is super talented.”

As the fight draws near, fans are eager to see how both fighters will approach this pivotal match. Aspinall, currently favored to win, joked that his plan might be to secure a slow decision victory instead of a swift finish. “We’re going for a five-round split decision,” he laughed. “Crowd will be booing after a couple of minutes.”

UFC 321 promises an exciting night of fights as Aspinall makes his first title defense and Gane seeks to reclaim his status.
