Tom Cruise Exhausted After Stunts in Latest ‘Mission: Impossible’ Film

LOS ANGELES, California — Tom Cruise experienced extreme fatigue while filming the latest entry in the “Mission: Impossible” franchise. He performed stunts while balancing on the wing of a biplane during the climax of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” Cruise’s longtime stunt coordinator, Wade Eastwood, shared details about the physically demanding shoot in a recent interview.
“It beat the hell out of him. The wind hitting him, the blast of the propeller, and particles hit him,” Eastwood recalled. “It was the hardest workout you could ever do; it was very dangerous and very exhausting for him.” Eastwood explained that there were times when crew members had to carry Cruise off the plane’s wing due to sheer exhaustion, as he soared through the air for hours.
Throughout the shoot, Cruise communicated using hand signals to relay how he was managing during the challenging conditions. A tap on the mouth would indicate he needed a break, allowing him to rest while still strapped to the wing in mid-air.
<p"Tom doesn’t show fear; Tom shows competence," Eastwood noted, praising Cruise's positivity. "He had fun during all his stunts, even when it was exhausting. He genuinely enjoys it."
Filming the latest installment is particularly significant for Cruise, as it marks what many believe to be the final chapter of the popular franchise. Following this movie, he is set to work with director Alejandro González Iñárritu on a science-fiction project.
In this upcoming film, Cruise plays a character determined to prove he is the savior of Earth after being part of its near destruction. The film will feature a notable cast, including Sophia Wilde, Emma D'Arcy, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons, and John Goodman.
Despite the exhausting stunts, Eastwood expressed no expectation of Cruise retiring from extreme physical challenges. “No chance. He’s a machine. He acts like a 20-year-old,” he said, emphasizing Cruise’s commitment to hard work and discipline. “There’s no magic there; it’s just his dedication to food, nutrition, and training.”
