Tom Selleck on the End of ‘Blue Bloods’: Frustration and Fond Memories
As the series finale of the popular CBS police procedural drama *Blue Bloods* approaches, star Tom Selleck has expressed his feelings of frustration and disappointment about the show’s ending. In a recent interview with *TV Insider*, Selleck, who has played New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan since 2010, suggested that the show was canceled needlessly despite its consistent success.
Selleck emphasized that *Blue Bloods* was “wildly successful” and had managed to perform well even in what he described as “the worst time slot” on Fridays. He noted that the show’s early success continued throughout its run, making it a reliable winner for CBS on Friday nights. Selleck’s frustration stems from the belief that the show could have continued to guarantee winning ratings for many more years.
The actor also reflected on the close relationships he has developed with his co-stars, comparing them to the fictional Reagan family they portray. Selleck mentioned that the camaraderie among the cast is something unique and special, and it is this aspect that he will miss the most once the show ends.
Donnie Wahlberg, Selleck’s co-star, revealed that the emotional toll of the show’s ending was evident even during filming. Wahlberg shared that Selleck broke down in tears while filming the final scenes of *Blue Bloods*.
CBS announced the end of *Blue Bloods* at the conclusion of Season 14, with the second part of the season airing on Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT until the series finale in early December. Despite the show’s end, there is a glimmer of hope for a potential spinoff series, as CBS Studios President David Stapf mentioned “endless possibilities” for the future.
