Tom Selleck, best known for his role as Frank Reagan in CBS‘s Blue Bloods, is eyeing a return to his iconic role as Jesse Stone in a potential tenth installment of the beloved TV movie series. Selleck, who has starred in nine Jesse Stone films, confirmed his interest in reprising the role after wrapping up his 14-season run on Blue Bloods in December 2023.

The Jesse Stone franchise, based on Robert B. Parker‘s novels, follows the titular character, a former LAPD detective turned police chief of Paradise, Massachusetts. The series is renowned for its character-driven plots, focusing on Stone’s struggles with alcoholism, his troubled past, and his relentless pursuit of justice. The last installment, Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise, was released in 2015.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Selleck expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the series, stating, ‘It wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it.’ However, the decade-long gap since the last film presents challenges, including addressing the passage of time and potentially rebooting the series to attract new viewers.

The first eight Jesse Stone films were produced by CBS before Hallmark Channel took over for the ninth installment. With the rise of streaming platforms like Disney+ and Max, the landscape for TV movies has shifted significantly. Selleck acknowledged the challenges of finding a platform willing to commit to an ongoing series but remains optimistic about the franchise’s future.

Fans have long hoped for a proper conclusion to the Jesse Stone saga, with many suggesting that the tenth film could serve as a finale. Selleck, now 78, hinted at the possibility of wrapping up lingering plot threads, including Stone’s unresolved relationship with his ex-wife Jenn and his ongoing battle with personal demons.

While no official greenlight has been given for the tenth film, Selleck’s passion for the role and the franchise’s enduring popularity make a return likely. Whether it serves as a finale or a new chapter, the prospect of Selleck donning the PPD cap once more is sure to excite fans of the series.
