Tommy Fleetwood and Clare Support Ryder Cup at Emotional Dinner

Hempstead House, Sands Point, N.Y. — Team Europe‘s Tommy Fleetwood attended a Ryder Cup welcome dinner Tuesday night with his wife, Clare, as the international golf competition prepares to kick off.
The couple, together for many years, joined other golfers and their partners at the event. Clare, 57, appeared at the dinner after Fleetwood, 34, opened up about a family health crisis involving their middle son, Mo Murray.
“Our middle boy had a spinal operation just over a month ago now. So they were unable to travel,” Fleetwood said, reflecting on Clare and stepson Murray’s absence at the BMW PGA Championship earlier this month. “Actually, the week of Memphis, they were in the hospital and he was recovering, and then eventually got home just before we got home. He had three and a half weeks in the hospital, so that’s why they weren’t there, but Oscar came out to be with me.”
Last month, Fleetwood celebrated a significant win at the Tour Championship, defeating Americans Patrick Cantlay and Russell Henley by three strokes to secure the $10 million FedEx Cup. In a heartfelt moment, he was joined by stepson Oscar during the victory, indicating the support of his family through challenging times.
This year marks Fleetwood’s fourth appearance in the Ryder Cup. He qualified automatically for Team Europe and is currently ranked No. 7 in the world. He expressed excitement about the event returning to the U.S., emphasizing the importance of engaging with the passionate crowd.
“To engage with them here is really important,” he said. “It’s great to soak up that atmosphere, whether it’s home or away. I loved interacting with them. I loved signing stuff, seeing the kids and all of that. I thought that was great.”
The Ryder Cup matches will start Friday, with the morning foursomes at 7:10 a.m., followed by four-ball matches at 12:25 p.m. Singles matches are set to begin Sunday at noon. Team Europe enters the competition as the reigning champion.
