Toyota Announces Major Share Repurchase Plan for 2025

Tokyo, Japan — Toyota Motor Corporation announced plans to repurchase over 13 million shares of its common stock valued at approximately JPY 37.7 billion in March 2025. This initiative is part of a broader strategy approved by the board to repurchase up to 530 million shares by April 2025, aimed at enhancing shareholder value and improving market perception.
According to the company, the decision reflects a commitment to returning capital to shareholders amidst fluctuating market conditions. “This share repurchase program illustrates our ongoing dedication to maximizing value for our investors,” said Koji Sato, Toyota’s chief financial officer, during a briefing.
Toyota, a leading name in the automotive industry, is known for its extensive lineup of vehicles, including hybrids and electric models. The company also emphasizes innovation and sustainability as core components of its business model. So far in 2025, the company’s stock has faced challenges, evidenced by a year-to-date price performance drop of 14.87%, despite an average trading volume of 526,725 shares.
In parallel, Toyota Industries Corporation, which operates in the automotive components sector, announced its own treasury stock repurchase of 673,700 shares at a cost of JPY 8.8 billion during March 2025. This repurchase aligns with a larger board-approved plan to buy back up to 10 million shares by May 2025.
“Enhancing our capital structure is key to our long-term strategy,” said President Akira Hoshino. The treasury stock repurchase efforts reflect both companies’ focus on financial stability and responsible capital management.
As the repurchase initiatives unfold, they are being closely watched by investors. The market cap for Toyota currently stands at ¥34,407.8 billion, while Toyota Industries Corporation has a market cap of $26.32 billion with a 2025 year-to-date performance increase of 7.32%.
The plans for repurchase have elicited a strong buy sentiment among analysts, citing potential increases in shareholder confidence. Investors and stock market observers will be looking to see how these efforts influence stock prices and overall market performance in the coming weeks.
