Travis Kelce Partners with Jana Partners to Invest in Six Flags

Baltimore, Maryland — NFL star Travis Kelce is partnering with activist investor Jana Partners to invest in Six Flags, a major amusement park operator. The announcement came on January 28, 2024, after Kelce’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, celebrated a victory against the Baltimore Ravens.
Jana Partners revealed that it has formed an investment group that includes Kelce, consumer executive Glenn Murphy, and technology executive Dave Habiger. This group now holds an economic interest of about 9% in Six Flags. Following the news, shares of the company rose more than 15% on Tuesday.
The investment group plans to engage with Six Flags’ board and management to find ways to enhance shareholder value and improve the guest experience. In a statement, Kelce expressed his excitement about the partnership, sharing his personal connection to the parks.
“I am a lifelong Six Flags fan and grew up going to these parks with my family and friends,” Kelce said. “The chance to help make Six Flags special for the next generation is one I couldn’t pass up.”
This move comes as Six Flags works to boost attendance and profitability after several leadership changes and a decline in visitors driven by the pandemic. Despite Tuesday’s stock surge, shares have still dropped about 48% this year.
Scott Ostfeld, managing partner at Jana Partners, announced the investment at the 13D Monitor Active-Passive Investor Summit, with details first reported by The Wall Street Journal.
