Tron: Ares Trailer Unveiled at CinemaCon, Promises Thrilling Adventure

LAS VEGAS — Disney unveiled a first look at the much-anticipated film “Tron: Ares” during CinemaCon on April 3, 2025. The film, which is a follow-up to 2010’s “Tron: Legacy,” presents a unique twist in which a highly sophisticated program, Ares, transitions from the digital realm into the real world.
Star Jared Leto, who portrays Ares, enthusiastically described the film as one that will “hit you right in the grid… wherever that is.” This new installment marks humanity’s first direct encounter with artificial intelligence beings, raising questions about technology’s role in society.
The trailer, framed by the atmospheric sounds of Nine Inch Nails, features striking visuals, including red light cycles racing down highways, a giant machine towering over a city, and a punk rock aesthetic. “I’m looking for something, something I do not understand,” Leto’s character ominously declares.
Jeff Bridges, who reprises his role as Kevin Flynn from the original 1982 film and its sequel, emphasized the film’s visual experience, stating, “It’s an incredible visual experience. You’re in for a treat.” Bridges joined Leto on stage at CinemaCon to promote the film.
In addition to Leto and Bridges, the film stars Evan Peters, Greta Lee, and Jodie Turner-Smith. Directed by Joachim Rønning, known for “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” the screenplay was crafted by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.
“Tron: Ares” returns to its roots by flipping the narrative—rather than humans venturing into the digital world, a program is sent into the real world. Leto expressed his longstanding admiration for the franchise, recalling his childhood obsession with it in the 1980s.
The trailer showcases intense action, featuring Light Cycles engaged in high-speed chases and police on their trail, culminating in one bike slicing through a cop car. “I’m looking for something I do not understand,” echoes Leto’s character over the chaos that ensues as ships descend from the sky and futuristic threats dominate the cityscape.
The announced cast includes notable names such as Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, Hasan Minhaj, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins, all contributing to the film’s deep ensemble. Disney also showcased other upcoming projects at CinemaCon, such as “Zootopia 2,” “The Fantastic Four: The First Steps,” and “Avatar: Fire and Ash.”
“Tron: Ares” is set to be released in IMAX theaters on October 10, 2025, marking a significant return for the franchise, which has been dormant since “Tron: Legacy.” Fans eagerly await what promises to be a visual spectacle that reconnects the series with its foundational themes of technology and humanity.
