Troubles in Spanian’s Online Fanbase Over ‘Into the Hood’ Series Episode in Melton
Fans of the popular YouTube personality known as Spanian are facing turmoil following a controversial episode from his ‘Into the Hood‘ series, which recently focused on the troubled suburb of Melton.
The social media star, Anthony Lees, better recognized as Spanian, has garnered a significant online following through his documentary-style vlogs that delve into struggling neighborhoods worldwide.
Hailing from Sydney and with a history of criminal convictions, Spanian’s visit to Melton, located 47 kilometers west of Melbourne, has sparked heated debate among his fan base.
During the episode, interactions with Melton residents, including a man who discussed his legal troubles after an alleged home invasion incident, drew criticism for seemingly glorifying criminal behavior.
Scenes in the vlog captured large crowds gathered in Melton as cars and motorbikes engaged in burnouts on public roads, with Spanian receiving enthusiastic receptions from the onlookers.
Despite the show of support, some fans expressed disappointment with the direction the series is taking, citing a perceived loss of authenticity and a glorification of criminal activities.
Spanian, however, responded defiantly to the backlash, defending his focus on celebrating “hood culture” rather than addressing broader societal issues, emphasizing his intention to highlight and uplift those residing in such areas.
