Troy Baker Previews Upcoming Game Intergalactic, Reflects on Career
LOS ANGELES, CA – Actor Troy Baker, renowned for his work in video games, is set to continue his collaboration with Naughty Dog in the upcoming title, Intergalactic. In a recent interview with ComicBook, Baker shared insights into his working relationship with director Neil Druckmann, as well as his reflections on his career in the industry.
Throughout his career, Baker has voiced key characters in multiple Naughty Dog games, including Joel in The Last of Us series and Sam in Uncharted 4. He has recently transitioned to a supporting role in Intergalactic, which will feature Tati Gabrielle‘s character, Jordan A. Mun, as the lead. Despite stepping back, Baker expressed enthusiasm for the new development.
“I’ve had a hell of a career. This industry owes me nothing. What a ride. I don’t think that I deserve or need any more,” he said. Baker also emphasized his enjoyment of the game development process over the accolades that come with it, noting that he finds great value in his experiences.
Baker’s collaboration with Druckmann has been marked by passionate debates. “Neil and I will always butt heads… We love to butt up against each other,” Baker said, sharing a humorous moment from a recent table read where he challenged Druckmann’s direction. He reassured fans, stating, “We’re fine. We’re fine!”
Intergalactic is currently in development for PlayStation 5, with a release anticipated in 2027. Druckmann described the game as having the “deepest gameplay” ever seen from Naughty Dog, though further details remain under wraps.
In discussing his future ambitions, Baker expressed a desire for a career akin to that of actor George Clooney, who is known for a diverse range of roles and projects. “I want to have my Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? and my Michael Clayton,” he remarked. Baker aspires to create works that foster collaboration and creativity in the industry.
In addition to his roles in Uncharted and The Last of Us, Baker has lent his voice to other popular titles, including BioShock Infinite and Fortnite. He has also dabbled in music and appeared on television, including a notable role in HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us.
Baker’s recent career developments included a controversial partnership with blockchain company Voiceverse in 2022, which ended when he acknowledged combative comments made during its announcement. As he looks toward the future, Baker remains committed to his craft, eager to face new challenges in the entertainment landscape.
