Trump Names Hollywood Stars as Special Envoys to Revive Industry
WASHINGTON, D.C. — President-elect Donald Trump announced Thursday the appointment of Hollywood icons Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone as Special Ambassadors to Hollywood, tasked with revitalizing the entertainment industry. The announcement, made via Trump’s Truth Social platform, aims to address what he described as a decline in Hollywood’s global business over the past four years.
“It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” Trump wrote. “They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE!”
Trump emphasized the trio’s influence, stating, “These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!”
The appointments come as Hollywood faces challenges, including the migration of film production to other states due to high costs and competing incentives. Stallone, Gibson, and Voight have all been vocal supporters of Trump, with Stallone introducing him at a post-election speech at Mar-a-Lago and Gibson endorsing him in a pre-election video.
Gibson, who faced controversy in 2006 for an antisemitic rant during a DUI arrest, expressed regret for his past comments. Voight, a longtime Trump ally, was awarded the National Medal of Arts during Trump’s first term. The trio’s involvement in Trump’s campaign provided a counterbalance to the wave of celebrity endorsements for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump’s announcement did not address the ongoing wildfires in California, which have forced mass evacuations and disrupted the region. The L.A. film industry has also been impacted by rising costs and competition from other states offering lucrative film incentives.
