Trump Saturday Night Live Cold Open Sketch

NEW YORK, NY — In a cold open that aired on May 3, 2025, comedian James Austin Johnson, impersonating President Donald Trump, signed a series of whimsical executive orders on ‘Saturday Night Live’. Joined by Mikey Day as White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, the sketch parodied real-life political events and issues.

Among the satirical orders was the so-called ‘Belichick Law’, which aimed to make it socially acceptable for men in their 70s to date younger women. President Trump exclaimed, “We’re calling it the Belichick law. We’re going to make girlfriends young again.” This remark humorously referenced NFL coach Bill Belichick, 73, and his reported girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, 24.

Critics have questioned the fairness of Belichick’s relationship, with former NFL analyst Richard Deitsch commenting, “This is embarrassing for a guy who’s as great at his job as he is.” The playful tone of the skit reflected Trump’s controversial approach to governance in his second term.

The fake president also mocked the cultural landscape, claiming, “It’s just too many,” in reference to the diversity present in advertising. His comments echo real-life scrutiny from his administration regarding media representation. Johnson’s Trump joked about investigations into major media companies’ diversity policies, stating, “What do they even talk about? It’s insane.”

The skit concluded with Trump joking about a new policy that would rename ‘recession’ to ‘recess’, suggesting, “So America, get ready for a historically long recess.” This comedic twist on political language has become a staple in SNL’s portrayals of his presidency.
