San Diego, California — U.S. President Donald Trump announced significant global tariffs during his ‘Liberation Day‘ address, claiming that ‘jobs and factories will come roaring back’ to America. The tariffs have raised concerns about steep price increases on various consumer products, including electronics.

Experts warn that Apple iPhones could see a drastic price hike to approximately $3,500 if manufactured in the U.S. Currently, the average price for an iPhone is around $1,000. Dan Ives, global head of technology research at Wedbush Securities, labeled this scenario as a ‘fictional tale,’ emphasizing the complexities involved in reshoring production.

‘To build that supply chain in the U.S. with fabs in West Virginia and New Jersey, they’ll be $3,500 iPhones,’ Ives stated, referring to the fabrication plants essential for manufacturing computer chips. He added that transitioning even just 10% of Apple’s supply chain to the U.S. would take about $30 billion and three years.

The tariffs, which affect a wide range of products, could lead American consumers to shoulder increased costs as manufacturers pass down the price of production. Economic officials have promised that the tariffs will eventually lead to the creation of millions of U.S. manufacturing jobs, but analysts express skepticism over the feasibility of such claims.

CNN has reached out to Apple for comments regarding the potential impacts of the tariffs on production costs and pricing strategies.
