Tyler Childers Concert Target Center Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Tyler Childers captivated a sold-out crowd at Target Center on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, marking his first arena headlining concert in Minnesota. Performing in front of 15,000 fans, Childers brought his signature blend of country and bluegrass to the stage, providing a memorable experience for an audience that spanned multiple generations.

The Kentucky singer-songwriter, known for his authentic sound, has a growing fan base that reflects a mix of young millennials, TikTok enthusiasts, and longtime country music devotees. This eclectic crowd was evident as they sang along to Childers’ heartfelt lyrics, resonating with lines like, “Daddy worked like a mule minin’ Pike County coal.”

Since debuting in the Twin Cities as Jack White’s opener at the Armory in 2018, Childers has sold out every venue he has headlined. His recent show followed a sold-out performance at a local venue where tickets were being resold for $200, indicating the high demand for his music.

Despite the larger setting, Childers remained true to his roots. Sporting a Kentucky-emblazoned sweatshirt, he primarily performed tracks from his critically acclaimed discography, showcasing a sound that many of his older fans appreciate. His performance featured a variety of songs, some of which came from his well-received albums, “Purgatory” and “Country Squire.”

The evening was highlighted by the acoustic mini-set on the B-stage where Childers left an emotional imprint with the song “Lady May.” Following this, he performed his latest hit, “In Your Love,” which featured elegant piano work from keyboardist Jimmy Rowland. “It’s cold out there, and you know some men search for ages for the love that I have found,” he sang, showcasing his lyrical depth.

Childers’ evolving sound included a mix of older hits and newer songs, such as the barn-storming tune about drinking problems yet to be released. His rich, bluegrass-influenced twang remained consistent, and although some of his new bandmates have shifted toward a rockier and louder dynamic, he still maintained that classic country spirit, reminiscent of the late John Prine.

A few technical issues arose during the show, including a less than ideal acoustic mix. Despite this, Childers’ lively performance and energetic engagement with the crowd kept spirits high. The six-member ensemble delivered fiery versions of popular tracks like “Whitehouse Road” and “House Fire,” highlighting their enthusiasm for performing in a large arena.

As the night drew to a close, the combination of Childers’ distinct sound, his engaging stage presence, and the diverse audience created a vibrant atmosphere in Target Center. His ability to connect with fans across age groups is a testament to his widespread appeal. With ticket prices on the rise and demands for more shows, it’s clear that Tyler Childers is making a lasting impact on the music scene in Minnesota.
