Tyler Perry’s ‘Straw’ Starring Taraji P. Henson Streams on Netflix June 6

Hollywood, CA
Tyler Perry’s latest film, “Straw,” featuring Taraji P. Henson, will premiere on Netflix on June 6, 2025. This follows the March release of another Perry film, “Tyler Perry’s Duplicity,” on Amazon Prime Video. Perry remains active in 2025 after releasing three films in 2024, including the acclaimed “The Six Triple Eight.”
The trailer for “Straw” has been unveiled, revealing a compelling story centered on Janiyah, played by Henson. Janiyah is a single mother facing adversity when she is evicted from her home. Determined to change her fate, she decides to take drastic measures. The film seems to echo themes from Perry’s previous work, such as “Good Deeds,” but without the financial savior that character encountered.
“Straw” presents a darker version of the narrative, where Janiyah reaches her breaking point. The film appears to merge elements of “Good Deeds,” “Set It Off,” and “John Q,” leading to suspenseful storytelling. Fans are excitedly preparing for its release, stating they will have their popcorn ready.
Henson has a history of collaboration with Perry, having starred in several of his films, including “The Family That Preys” and “Acrimony.” In “Straw,” she joins a talented cast, including Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Glynn Turman, Sinbad, Rockmond Dunbar, Ashley Versher, and Mike Merrill.
“Straw” will officially debut on Netflix on June 6, 2025, adding to Perry’s impressive body of work.
