Ukrainian Businesses Prepare for Power Outages Amid Economic Challenges
Kiev, Ukraine
As winter approaches, many Ukrainian entrepreneurs are bracing for potential power outages, according to a survey conducted by the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Barometer of Business survey released in October 2025 reveals that 80% of surveyed businesses have made preparations for disruptions to power supply.
The survey indicates that 56% of businesses currently possess generators, a slight decline from the previous year, while 19% have invested in alternative power sources, marking a notable increase. Additionally, 5% of enterprises report having autonomous power systems. However, 14% are actively seeking to purchase new equipment, down from earlier figures.
“Ukrainian business is ready for dark times,” stated the chamber’s press service. Despite the preparations, the overall Barometer of Business index for October 2025 shows a decline, signaling negative expectations among entrepreneurs.
The construction sector reflected a modest improvement in outlook, but other sectors—manufacturing, services, and trade—showed ongoing negative sentiments. Expectations from exporters remain particularly grim, as businesses adapt to new market conditions while managing costs and external factors affecting their operations.
Entrepreneurs continue to monitor the political and economic climate closely, as uncertainty about power supply and government policies influences their strategies moving forward. The chamber noted that careful adjustments are critical for sustaining operations amidst the challenges ahead.
