UrbanGidi to Release New Series ‘Under the Influence’ on Showmax Nigeria

UrbanGidi, the production company led by filmmaker Wande Thomas, is gearing up to release a new Showmax Nigeria Original series titled ‘Under the Influence‘. This exciting series is set to explore the fast-paced and often chaotic life of a young graduate trying to find their footing in the bustling city of Lagos.

Directed and written by Wande Thomas along with a talented group of writers, including Isoken Ogiemwonyi, Nengi Diri, Mannie Oiseomaye, and Nicole Chikwe, ‘Under the Influence’ promises to bring a Gen Z perspective to the screen. It’s all about capturing the vibrant essence of modern Nigerian youth culture in our increasingly digital world.

Wande Thomas is known for his fresh take on African storytelling, with past projects like the dramedy ‘Lara of Lagos‘ from 2020, and the thrilling ‘Napped‘ from 2021. He is also set to release the second season of the Pan-African drama series ‘The Smart Money Woman’ next year.

Besides these projects, he is also working on a limited thriller series called ‘Spiraling‘, featuring stars like Toni Tones, Folu Storms, and Nollywood veteran Jim Iyke. Thomas mentions that ‘Under the Influence’ is inspired by creators like Donald Glover and Issa Rae, giving viewers a peek into the intriguing world of celebrities and social media influencers, among other themes.

Currently, the series has wrapped up its principal photography and is now in the post-production phase, bringing it one step closer to its release.
