Uswnt Vs Iceland Women's Soccer Match Q2 Stadium

The U.S. women’s national soccer team (USWNT) is set to face Iceland in an international friendly match on Thursday, October 24, at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. This game marks the first of a three-match celebration series for the USWNT, following their gold medal victory at the Paris Olympics this summer.

The match, scheduled to kick off at 7:30 PM ET, will be broadcast on TBS and streamed on MAX. The USWNT, led by head coach Emma Hayes, has named a 26-player roster for the October international window, which includes 18 players from the Olympic roster. However, some key players like Trinity Rodman are absent due to injuries, while Sophia Smith and Mallory Swanson are available and expected to be part of the attacking lineup.

Iceland, managed by Thorsteinn Halldórsson, is currently ranked 13th in the FIFA Women's World Rankings and has recently qualified for the 2025 UEFA Women's Euro. Despite being winless against the USWNT in their previous 15 meetings, Iceland brings a strong squad, with forward Sveindís Jónsdóttir being a key player to watch. Jónsdóttir has scored 12 goals in 40 international appearances.

The starting lineup for the USWNT includes Alyssa Naeher, Emily Sonnett, Naomi Girma, and Rose Lavelle, among others. For Iceland, the lineup features Telma Ívarsdóttir, Glodis Viggosdottir, and Sveindís Jónsdóttir. The match is expected to be closely contested, with predictions leaning towards a narrow USWNT victory.

This friendly match is part of the USWNT’s victory tour, which will also include a game against Argentina. Coach Hayes has indicated plans to utilize the entire player pool throughout the window, suggesting potential debuts for some of the six players in camp without a senior appearance.
