Vanessa Williams Desperate Housewives Reboot

LONDON, England – Vanessa Williams expressed hesitation about the upcoming reboot of “Desperate Housewives” during the Variety Club Showbusiness Awards on October 20, 2025. Williams, who played Renee Perry in the series, shared her thoughts on the new version, titled “Wisteria Lane.”

Although there are rumors of a new spin-off from original creator Marc Cherry, this project is taking a different route. The reboot has been described as a “fun, sexy, darkly comedic soap/mystery” that reflects its predecessor but focuses on a new set of characters living in Wisteria Lane.

Williams admitted her curiosity over the reboot. “That was Marc Cherry’s baby, and he’s a very specific person with a specific angle,” she stated. “So I would be curious to see if he’s involved. If not, what is the take on Wisteria Lane?”

The actress believes the new version will likely feature a younger cast. “I think they’re going for younger housewives, like we were 20 years ago,” she told reporters.

Williams, who is currently starring in “The Devil Wears Prada” on the West End, mentioned enjoying her time in London over the past two years. She noted, “I am privileged to live here” and has appreciated sharing experiences with friends and family in her new city.

The original “Desperate Housewives” aired from 2004 to 2012 and was celebrated for its intelligent storytelling and impactful performances. Its creator, Marc Cherry, has not been confirmed for the new project.

This reboot announcement has sparked mixed reactions from fans online. Many original viewers expressed disappointment, stating that the original series remains a classic that should not be revisited. Comments included sentiments like, ‘Nobody asked for that, original is perfect’ and ‘Did we completely run out of original ideas?’

As news continues to unfold, Williams seems uncertain but open to the changes in this new era of Wisteria Lane.
