NEW YORK, New York — Sony Pictures‘ latest installment in its Spider-Man universe, “Venom: The Last Dance,” will be available on Netflix starting February 25, 2025. This film represents the third and perhaps final chapter for Tom Hardy‘s portrayal of Eddie Brock and his symbiotic alter ego, Venom.
Initially released in theaters on October 25, 2024, and made available for digital purchase and rental on December 10, 2024, “Venom: The Last Dance” has become a significant part of Sony’s cinematic strategy. The film explores the story of Eddie and Venom as they evade multiple threats from their worlds, ultimately forcing a devastating decision.
The official logline states, “Eddie and Venom are on the run. Hunted by both of their worlds and with the net closing in, the duo is forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance.” Alongside Hardy, the film features performances by Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rhys Ifans, and Stephen Graham.
Upon its theatrical release, “Venom: The Last Dance” garnered mixed reviews from critics, receiving a 40% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 218 reviews, while audience ratings soared to 80%, based on over 5,000 verified reviews.
Financially, the film has proven successful. It grossed $139.7 million domestically and $334.8 million internationally, culminating in a worldwide box office total of $474.5 million against a production budget of $110 million. This positions the film as Sony’s only box office hit in 2024’s Spider-Man universe offerings, following the lackluster performances of “Madame Web” and “Kraven the Hunter,” which earned $100.2 million and $59.9 million, respectively.
Director Kelly Marcel, who co-wrote the film with Hardy, noted that the trilogy was planned from the outset. “We knew it would be three,” she stated. “We knew it would end like this from the beginning.” Despite uncertainty about Eddie Brock’s future after this film, Hardy’s rumored potential involvement in an upcoming Spider-Man installment remains unconfirmed.
To view “Venom: The Last Dance,” viewers will require a Netflix subscription, with plans ranging from $7.99 for an ad-supported package to $24.99 for an ad-free experience with 4K Ultra HD streaming capabilities.
As the Venom saga arrives on streaming, audiences will have the opportunity to reassess its mixed legacy, as critics and fans continue to debate the merits of the trilogy.
