Veteran Actor Satish Shah Passes Away at 74
Mumbai, India — Veteran actor Satish Shah, celebrated for his roles in the beloved sitcom ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai‘ and films such as ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’, has passed away at the age of 74. He succumbed to kidney-related issues after being hospitalized at Hinduja Hospital. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed the news on social media, expressing sorrow over the significant loss to the Indian entertainment industry.
Shah’s personal assistant Ramesh Kadatala stated that the actor died at his home in Bandra East in the afternoon. “It seems he passed away from a heart attack; however, we are awaiting the final reports from the doctor about the reason behind his death,” Kadatala said.
In a heartfelt post, Pandit wrote, “Sad and shocked to inform you that our dear friend and a great actor, Satish Shah, has expired a few hours ago due to kidney failure. He was rushed to Hinduja Hospital, where he breathed his last. A great loss to our industry. Om Shanti.”
Shah became a household name for his portrayal of the witty Indravadan Sarabhai on ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai’, which earned him immense popularity. Born on June 25, 1951, in Mandvi, Gujarat, Shah graduated from Xavier's College and later attended the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune.
He garnered fame for his versatile performances in various films and television shows, including the iconic 1983 comedy ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ and popular dramas like ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’ and ‘Filmi Chakkar’. His work in films extended to hits like ‘Main Hoon Na’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’, and ‘Om Shanti Om’.
In 2015, Shah was appointed as a member of the Film and Television Institute of India Society, reflecting his contributions to the industry. News of his passing has left many in the entertainment community mourning his loss, with tributes pouring in from colleagues and fans alike.
Actor Satyajeet Dubey expressed his grief on social media, stating, “Deeply saddened to hear about Satish Shah sir’s passing. He was such an incredible actor.” Delnaaz Irani, who worked with Shah, described him as “so jovial, so full of life” upon hearing the news.
Shah’s legacy as a beloved entertainer will be remembered by many, but his absence will certainly leave a significant gap in the industry.
