MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota — T.J. Hockenson‘s performance has improved steadily since Carson Wentz became the starting quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. After J.J. McCarthy‘s injury, Wentz has initiated a change that has led to Hockenson recording at least four receptions and 38 receiving yards in his last three games.

While these statistics are not strikingly impressive, they represent a significant improvement compared to Hockenson’s averages while McCarthy played. Ahead of Week 7’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, Hockenson talked about the growing connection he is developing with Wentz.

“I think Carson’s always had an axe for finding the tight end,” Hockenson said on October 16. “He’s really good at finding us in the checkdown, and we’ve been trying to gain some yards after the catch in late-game situations.”

Head coach Kevin O’Connell announced Wentz will start again this week, despite McCarthy’s return to limited practice. O’Connell emphasized his comfort with Wentz’s performance and ability to execute plays under pressure.

<p“I was proud of the way he attacked the week,” O’Connell stated. “He got a ton of reps with the first group, working on some things that are really starting to come to fruition.”

McCarthy acknowledged that he has been learning from watching Wentz, noting the veteran’s experience and quick decision-making. “I’ve learned a lot just from little things he does pre-snap,” McCarthy said.

This Week 7 matchup holds high stakes for both teams, as the Vikings look to end their losing streak, with Wentz leading the way against the Eagles’ formidable defense.
