Virgin Media Outage Internet Service Uk

LONDON, UK — Virgin Media announced that it has fully restored internet services for thousands of customers who were affected by a widespread outage earlier in the day. The disruption began shortly after 10:00 GMT on Monday, with Downdetector reporting over 10,000 users experiencing connectivity issues at the peak.

A company spokesperson stated, “We have now fully restored services for all customers, following an earlier outage. We would like to apologise again to customers who were impacted for any inconvenience caused.”

The outage significantly hindered access for many, including the Student Loans Company, which informed users on social media that they could only provide general guidance due to connectivity issues. “We’re currently having problems due to a Virgin Media outage,” they stated. “This means we can only give general guidance when you contact us and you might have a longer wait time.”

Virgin Media, in conjunction with O2, serves over 45 million customers across the UK, with about 5.7 million broadband subscribers reported in October 2024. Despite the restoration of services, reports of issues continued to surface on social media as users expressed frustration over their ongoing connectivity problems.

According to earlier statements from Virgin Media, the company was aware of intermittent issues experienced by some customers but did not elaborate on the cause of the outage. The service’s status checker was also reportedly down during the crisis, further complicating efforts for updates.

The Office of Communications (Ofcom) recently cited Virgin Media’s previous performance in handling complaints, indicating an improvement in customer service rankings. “We have fewer complaints than TalkTalk, EE, and NOW Broadband,” a company representative noted.

As the situation developed, reports on Downdetector decreased from a peak of nearly 10,000 to around 300 by the afternoon. Internal sources indicated that service was reportedly restored in various parts of London, but some customers remained affected.

Other users speculated that the issues could be related to DNS (Domain Name System) problems affecting various platforms, including BT and Xbox. As Virgin Media works to stabilize its services, users are encouraged to register for compensation through its Automatic Compensation scheme, which offers £9.76 per day for total loss of service after two full working days.

In summary, the swift resolution of the Virgin Media outage was welcomed by many, but residual issues reminded some customers of the importance of reliable internet service as they navigate either work or daily communications.
