Warriors Overcome Doncic’s 43 Points to Defeat Lakers 119-109
LOS ANGELES, CA — The Golden State Warriors began their 2025-26 NBA season with a 119-109 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night. Jimmy Butler led the Warriors with 31 points, while Luka Doncic scored 43 points for the Lakers, who were without star player LeBron James due to sciatica.
Butler’s standout performance included a perfect 16-for-16 from the free-throw line. He also had five rebounds and four assists. Despite Doncic’s impressive output, which included 12 rebounds and nine assists, the Lakers struggled to find scoring support.
Stephen Curry, starting his 17th season, contributed 23 points but faced challenges, hitting only three 3-pointers in the game. The Warriors’ offense shined as Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield added 17 points each, with Kuminga’s scoring pivotal in the second half.
The Lakers, despite a valiant comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, could not overcome a 17-point deficit created by the Warriors’ strong start to the second half. Despite hitting 28 free throws, Los Angeles missed 11 attempts, contributing to their loss.
Golden State initially led by just one point at halftime. However, they opened the third quarter with a dominant 19-4 run, showcasing their offensive capabilities. The Lakers’ Austin Reaves provided valuable support with 26 points, yet overall team performance faltered.
Looking forward, the Warriors will host the Denver Nuggets on Thursday, while the Lakers prepare to take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in their next game.
