The Weeknd Drops Final Album of Trilogy, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — The Weeknd, born Abel Tesfaye, released his highly anticipated album, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow,’ on Friday, January 31, 2025, at midnight ET. The album marks the final installment of a trilogy that began with ‘After Hours‘ in 2020 and continued with ‘Dawn FM‘ in 2022.
Fans worldwide eagerly awaited the release, which dropped simultaneously across all time zones. For West Coast listeners in the U.S., the album became available at 9:00 PM on January 30, while U.K. fans could stream it starting at 5:00 AM on January 31. The Weeknd has yet to reveal the full tracklist, but confirmed singles include ‘Dancing In Flames,’ ‘Timeless’ featuring Playboi Carti, and ‘São Paolo’ with Anitta.
The album features production from industry heavyweights like Max Martin, Pharrell Williams, and Mike Dean. ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ concludes a narrative arc that began with Tesfaye’s character bleeding out on a Las Vegas sidewalk in ‘After Hours’ and transitioning into the afterlife in ‘Dawn FM.’ The new album explores themes of rebirth and transformation, hinted at by teasers depicting Tesfaye as a baby and a biblical quote about humanity’s frailty.
Despite numerous challenges, including delays due to wildfires in Los Angeles and the cancellation of tour dates, The Weeknd has maintained his status as one of the most-streamed artists globally. His 2021 single, ‘Blinding Lights,’ holds the record for the most successful song of all time, spending 90 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.
The Weeknd’s career has been marked by ambitious projects, including his 2021 Super Bowl halftime show, which featured a mirror maze and hundreds of masked dancers. He also ventured into television with the HBO series ‘The Idol,’ which, despite mixed reviews, showcased his ability to take creative risks.
As ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ concludes this chapter of The Weeknd’s career, fans speculate whether this marks the end of the ‘The Weeknd’ persona. Regardless, Tesfaye’s influence on music and pop culture remains undeniable, with collaborations spanning Ariana Grande, Travis Scott, and Swedish House Mafia, among others.
