Wegmans Opens First Long Island Supermarket in Lake Grove

LAKE GROVE, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets celebrated the grand opening of its first Long Island supermarket on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 3270 Middle Country Road, featuring a vast 101,000 square feet of retail space.
The new store will provide a diverse array of grocery and specialty items, marking a significant addition to the Long Island food scene. Store manager Dawn Cooper expressed anticipation for the opening, stating, “We have been actively hiring and training new employees and are excited to open our doors to serve the Lake Grove community.”
Wegmans, based in Rochester, N.Y., aims to create a unique shopping experience. The Lake Grove location employs over 500 staff members in both full-time and part-time positions. Customers can look forward to traditional grocery offerings, alongside dedicated sections for restaurant-style foods including sushi, pizza, and chef-made salads.
In an effort to engage with the local community, Wegmans has already formed partnerships with organizations like Long Island Cares to bolster food security. “With Wegmans’ help, we will be better able to support those on Long Island experiencing hunger,” said Bob LaBarbara of Long Island Cares.
The store’s design includes a large produce department and a wide variety of seafood, meat, bakery, deli, and cheese options. Additionally, it features both self-checkout and full-service registers to accommodate customer preferences.
Wegmans is also committed to local sourcing, featuring products from nearby breweries and wineries in their beverage selection. The company is known for its extensive beer variety, boasting over 1,500 brands from around the globe.
The Lake Grove store opened with much excitement in the community. “I can’t WAIT for our Wegmans to open close to me!” shared a local resident, while another enthused, “WEGGS IS MY ENTIRE LIFE,” indicating the chain’s loyal following.
The corporation’s expansion into Long Island comes years after it opened stores in Brooklyn and Manhattan, establishing a solid foothold in New York. Wegmans has plans to further broaden its reach in the region, potentially adding more stores in Suffolk County down the line.
Founded in 1916, Wegmans has grown into a regional staple, known for its high-quality products and community involvement. “It is such a warm and welcoming community; we are enjoying getting to know the people who live here,” Cooper added.
Following the grand opening on February 26, the Lake Grove store will operate daily from 6 a.m. to midnight.
