Wicked Movie Release Dates and What to Expect
The highly anticipated movie adaptation of the Broadway musical ‘Wicked‘ is set to hit theaters in two parts. The first part, ‘Wicked Part 1,’ is scheduled for release on November 22, 2024. This film, directed by John M. Chu, stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, and it covers the first act of the stage musical.
The second installment, ‘Wicked Part 2,’ will be released on November 21, 2025. Despite the long wait, fans can look forward to the continuation of the story, which follows the second act of the stage production. This part will see the hunt for Elphaba, her labeling as the ‘Wicked Witch of the West,’ and the promotion of Glinda as the Wizard’s main spokesperson, known as ‘Glinda the Good’.
Both parts of the movie were filmed simultaneously, with principal photography beginning in December 2022 and wrapping up in January 2024. The entire production was shot in England, primarily at Sky Studios Elstree, Borehamwood, and Ivinghoe, Buckinghamshire.
The cast for ‘Wicked Part 2’ will include the return of all main actors, including Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, Bowen Yang, and Bronwyn James. The soundtrack for Part 2 is expected to feature songs like ‘Thank Goodness,’ ‘The Wicked Witch Of The East,’ ‘As Long As You’re Mine,’ and ‘No Good Deed,’ among others.
The delay between the two films is partly due to the complexities and challenges faced during the production of the first part, including the impact of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Despite these challenges, the films are now on track for their respective release dates.
