Will Ferrell Rickrolls Colbert’s Audience in Hilarious Interview Segment

NEW YORK, NY — Will Ferrell surprised viewers of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Tuesday night by performing a comical rendition of Rick Astley‘s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” The segment took place on April 29 during the popular segment called “The Colbert Questionert,” where Colbert asks guests rapid-fire questions.
Ferrell, known for his comedic roles, lightheartedly disregarded the serious tone of the questions. When Colbert asked him what song he would choose for life, Ferrell confidently answered with “Never Gonna Give You Up.” He then launched into an enthusiastic performance of the classic 1980s hit, which gained fame again in the 2000s through the “Rickroll” meme.
The duet quickly devolved into laughter as both men forgot many of the lyrics. Afterward, Colbert hilariously queried a producer off-camera about the licensing fees for the performance. When told it would cost them $80,000, Colbert joked, “You’re good for that, right?”
The interview featured other lighthearted topics, such as Ferrell’s take on his favorite sandwich, which he described as “a classic… salami and grapefruit on rye, with a light sheen of mayonnaise.” When asked about the scariest animal, he quipped, “The penguin… You know the old phrase, ‘Don’t turn your back on a penguin?'”
Ferrell added to the humor when Colbert asked if he ever requested an autograph, stating he had only asked Vladimir Putin once, adding, “He was in a rush; he was not signing that day.”
During the segment, Colbert posed a more philosophical question about death. Ferrell jokingly replied, “We turn into trees… you’re stuck as a tree… for eternity.” When it came to his favorite action movie, Ferrell said, “Sense and Sensibility… the horses, the rain, the swing of doors, the loud exclamations of fancy words.”
