Will Trent Season 3 Cast Atlanta Set

The third season of ABC‘s hit police procedural ‘Will Trent‘ premiered on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m., bringing back the beloved characters and introducing new twists. The season picks up seven months after the dramatic events of the Season 2 finale, where Will Trent (Ramon Rodriguez) arrested his girlfriend Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen) for covering up a serial killer’s crimes and then disappeared with his pet Chihuahua, Betty.

This season, Will is no longer in Atlanta, Angie is no longer a police officer, and the other characters are adjusting to the fallout. The show, known for blending witty banter with serious drama, continues to explore the complexities of its characters while delving into new cases. Gina Rodriguez, known for her roles in ‘Jane the Virgin’ and ‘Not Dead Yet,’ joins the cast as Marion, an assistant district attorney who brings a legal perspective to the team.

Rodriguez’s character adds a fresh dynamic to the show, providing resources and a new layer of conflict. ‘She comes in and ruffles feathers for sure right away,’ Rodriguez said of her character. ‘She’s very confident and isn’t concerned about appropriating herself to fit in.’

The season also explores the strained relationship between Will and Angie. ‘They are not talking,’ Christensen revealed. ‘Angie is well aware that if she is lucky to end up back on the force, she will cross paths with him again.’ The show delves into their shared history as foster kids and the trauma that binds them.

Filmed in Atlanta, the show has become a staple for the city’s entertainment industry, with 18 episodes planned for this season. The cast and crew have praised the supportive environment and the show’s ability to balance humor with intense drama. ‘It’s been a good long season and a good long gig,’ Christensen said. ‘The purity of knowing exactly what we’re trying to accomplish and being directly invested in that with a large group of people is magical.’

Fans can expect more of Betty, Will’s loyal Chihuahua, who continues to steal scenes. ‘She’s so cute. I want to take that dog home with me,’ said Iantha Richardson, who plays Faith Mitchell. The show also promises more personal storylines for its characters, including Ormewood’s crumbling marriage and Amanda Wagner’s evolving leadership.

‘Will Trent’ airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC, with episodes available on Hulu the following day.
