Wipro MD Thierry Delaporte Steps Down, Srinivas Pallia to Take Over as CEO
Wipro is undergoing a leadership shuffle as Thierry Delaporte, the current CEO and MD, announces his resignation from his position. The tech giant has revealed that Srinivas Pallia will succeed Delaporte as the new MD and CEO.
Delaporte, whose tenure was scheduled to end in July 2025, will be stepping down early, with his official resignation effective from April 6, 2024. He will be relieved from his role as CEO at the close of business hours on May 31, 2024.
Srinivas Pallia, who served as the CEO for the company’s Americas region, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Wipro. He is a seasoned veteran at Wipro, with over three decades of experience at the company.
According to Wipro’s chairman Rishad Premji, Pallia’s client-centric approach, growth mindset, strong execution focus, and commitment to the company’s values make him an ideal candidate for the role.
Thierry Delaporte was one of the rare non-Indian leaders to head an Indian IT firm, bringing in a new perspective during his term. However, Wipro seems to be shifting towards promoting internal candidates for leadership positions, reflected in Pallia’s appointment.
Pallia, who held leadership roles within Wipro previously, including as the president of Wipro’s consumer business unit and CEO of the Americas region, will now take on the challenge of leading the company through its next growth phase.
During Delaporte’s tenure, Wipro made its largest acquisition and signed major deals. However, the company faced revenue declines and operational challenges, leading to the decision for a change in leadership.
In his resignation letter, Delaporte expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to Wipro’s growth and success, highlighting the significant transformation within the company under his leadership.
Under Pallia’s leadership, Wipro aims to navigate through the challenges and capitalize on opportunities for growth and profitability in the competitive IT landscape.
