Woman Discovers Dark Secret in Airbnb Rental: Doors Lead to Mysterious Basement Room
A woman from Kansas City, Missouri, named Xena Habashi had a terrifying experience during her family trip to Chicago. Habashi had rented a basement apartment through Airbnb for their stay. However, upon arriving at the apartment, she immediately noticed something strange. There were several random doors inside the house that were not shown in the listing.
Habashi decided to dismiss her initial concern and get some rest. But as they were getting ready to sleep, she and her cousin noticed a locked room with a light on. Curiosity got the best of them, and they managed to open the door using a fork. To their horror, they discovered a dark, cellar-like room with wooden doors, locks, chains, and even a deeper wooden door leading further into the building’s foundation.
Feeling unsettled, Habashi recorded footage of the mysterious room and shared it on YouTube, where it quickly went viral with nearly 10 million views. Many viewers compared the room to the one depicted in the horror film “Barbarian,” directed by Zach Cregger.
Habashi and her family, though not in danger, felt frightened by the discovery. They also reported hearing tapping noises, leading them to contact Airbnb for assistance. While Airbnb promptly offered a full refund and another place to stay, the family remained on edge throughout their time there. They decided to block the door with a table and a rolled-up towel as an added precaution.
Habashi described the ordeal as a “scary experience” but expressed no ill feelings towards Airbnb. They even stayed in another Airbnb property the following night. An Airbnb spokesperson assured that there were no other safety concerns reported with the listing, as it was described as a spacious basement unit with positive reviews from previous guests.
Overall, the incident sheds light on the importance of transparency in rental listings and the need to address any potential safety concerns promptly. Xena Habashi’s viral video serves as a chilling reminder of the unexpected discoveries one can make while staying in unfamiliar places.
