Women in Music Come Together at GRAMMY House Event
Women from across the music industry gathered at GRAMMY House in Los Angeles‘ Arts District to celebrate their achievements and advocate for further progress on Feb. 1. The event, called A Celebration Of Women In The Mix, welcomed musicians, agents, producers, engineers, managers, and more.
Hosted by Janine Rubenstein, Editor-At-Large of People Magazine, the event featured inspiring speeches and performances by several notable figures. Ty Stiklorius, CEO of Friends At Work, delivered a powerful keynote address, sharing stories from her years managing John Legend and discussing her commitment to creating opportunities for women and marginalized groups in the music industry.
The event also marked the launch of Sephora Sounds, a program dedicated to promoting diversity and representation across the industry. Sephora, as the event’s Presenting Sponsor, provided makeup artists for touch-up activations and emphasized their support for inclusivity.
The panel discussion included Melody Chiu, Marcella Araica, Carly Pearce, and Jordin Sparks, who shared their experiences as women in music and spoke about the challenges they have faced. Singer-songwriter Emily King captivated the audience with her performances.
Throughout the event, the need for greater gender parity in the music industry was emphasized. Despite women dominating major categories at this year’s GRAMMYs, studies show that they still face significant underrepresentation. Ty Stiklorius highlighted the impact of women songwriters and urged female performers to collaborate with more women in order to achieve gender parity in the industry.
The evening concluded with Ruby Marchand, the Recording Industry’s Chief Awards and Industry Officer, emphasizing the importance of trust among women in the music industry. She encouraged women to trust themselves and their decisions, as well as support and guide each other towards success.
