Yellow Weather Warning Issued for Dorset Due to Thunderstorm Forecast
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Dorset as thunderstorms are expected to bring heavy rainfall to the area this evening. The warning applies to all parts of the county, including Christchurch and Poole, and is in effect from 4 PM on October 7 until midnight.
Residents have been advised to brace for possible flooding and temporary power outages due to the adverse weather conditions. Motorists are also cautioned that driving conditions may be hazardous due to spray, standing water, and hail, which could result in increased travel times for those commuting by car and bus.
There is a likelihood of damage to some buildings and structures due to lightning, hail, or gusty winds, particularly near coastal areas. A spokesperson for the Met Office stated, “Areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms will move northwards across southern parts of England and Wales later Monday, clearing northwards overnight. Some places will see 20-30 mm of rain within 2-3 hours, with a small chance that a few places could receive 40 mm.”
Thunderstorms are more likely in south-facing coastal districts, with hail and strong gusts of wind potentially accompanying the most severe showers and thunderstorms, the spokesperson added.
