Zelda Williams Opens Up About Directing Debut With Lisa Frankenstein

Actress and director Zelda Williams recently shared her experience and emotions surrounding her directorial debut with Lisa Frankenstein. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday, Zelda expressed that taking on the role of director was initially daunting, especially for a campy comedy like Lisa Frankenstein. However, she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and the fun she had on set.

The decision for Zelda to make her directorial debut with Lisa Frankenstein, according to her, was influenced by the universe itself. Due to the pandemic, other film projects she was set to work on did not survive. Lisa Frankenstein, on the other hand, became the project that pushed through, which she is incredibly grateful for.

Zelda also mentioned that Lisa Frankenstein could be the perfect activity for Galentine’s Day, even for single viewers. She believes that the film’s comedic aspects will bring laughter, regardless of one’s relationship status.

Lisa Frankenstein, written by Diablo Cody, is a horror comedy set in 1989. The plot revolves around a high schooler who revives a handsome Victorian corpse during a storm and transforms him into her perfect man. The film stars Kathryn Newton, Cole Sprouse, Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest, and Carla Gugino.

Zelda Williams, who is the daughter of the late Robin Williams, has followed in her father’s footsteps and made a name for herself in the entertainment industry. She has previously appeared in the TV series Dead of Summer and has lent her voice to shows like The Legend of Korra.

Robin Williams, a beloved actor, passed away in 2014. Zelda has been vocal about her mental health struggles following his death and has encouraged others to seek help and support.

Lisa Frankenstein will be released in theaters on February 9.
