Zohran Mamdani Ties the Knot in Secret Dubai Wedding

Dubai, United Arab Emirates — Zohran Mamdani, a candidate in the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City, held a secret engagement and wedding ceremony with his wife, Rama Duwaji, on December 22, 2024. The couple celebrated in style at Vida Creek Harbour, which offers stunning views of the iconic Burj Khalifa.
The event, shared through various social media platforms, marked both an engagement and a Nikkah, an Islamic ceremony where the couple signs a marriage contract. Mamdani, 33, and Duwaji, 27, kept the gathering under wraps, inviting only close family and friends.
According to Mamdani’s campaign, “Before their civil ceremony in New York City, Zohran and his wife celebrated their engagement in Dubai last year where her family lives.” The intimate gathering was described as joyful and filled with cherished moments amongst loved ones.
In an Instagram post, Mamdani urged New Yorkers to focus on his campaign rather than personal matters. He emphasized his commitment to his wife, stating, “Rama isn’t just my wife, she’s an incredible artist who deserves to be known on her own terms.”
Mamdani, who has gained attention for his socialist views, is actively campaigning to replace Eric Adams as mayor. Despite his public persona, he has shared limited details about his marriage and life with Duwaji, a talented Syrian artist based in Brooklyn.
Duwaji, who holds a Master of Fine Arts in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts, has contributed her artwork to prominent publications like The New Yorker and The Washington Post. Her career in art flourished during the pandemic while living with family in Dubai.
As the couple builds their future together, they continue to focus on their respective passions and commitments. With a unique blend of personal achievement and public service ahead, both Mamdani and Duwaji look forward to their journey.
