Public Transportation Delays Expected During Colfax Marathon This Weekend

DENVER — Thousands of participants are set to take part in the Colfax Marathon this Sunday, causing significant public transportation delays and road closures throughout metro Denver.
Starting at 5 a.m. and running until approximately 1 p.m., the marathon will restrict access to a wide area north of 29th Avenue, east of Colorado Boulevard, south of 14th Avenue, and west of Kipling Street, according to race organizers.
Although Interstate 25 will remain open during the event, many local roads will be closed temporarily as runners pass through the area. Regional Transportation District (RTD) reported that various bus and light rail services will also experience disruptions, with specific impacts to D, H, and L Light Rail lines, along with more than two dozen bus routes.
For the convenience of runners, RTD is offering free rides on the W-Line and bus routes 15, 15L, and 16 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. for those displaying their race bib. Regular bus service is expected to resume once the runners have completed their race in each section.
The marathon, a 26.2-mile event touted as the “ultimate urban tour,” guides participants through scenic views including Confluence Park, Empower Field at Mile High, and the Cherry Creek Trail.
For non-participants, an after-party is planned at City Park featuring live music, food, and drinks, starting at approximately 11 a.m.
Travelers are advised to avoid areas near Kipling Street to the west, 6th Avenue to the south, West 26th Avenue to the north, and Havana Street to the east on Sunday. This will help minimize delays and complications for both drivers and local residents.
Event organizers and local authorities recommend allowing extra travel time for anyone needing to navigate around the city during the marathon.
