Power Restored in Plaquemine After Equipment Breakdown

PLAQUEMINE, La. — Officials announced that power should be restored for residents in Plaquemine by 11:05 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, after an equipment breakdown at an Entergy substation caused an outage.
The outage began around 11 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, impacting many residents through Sunday morning. In an update shared just before noon on Sunday, city officials stated that crews are working diligently to resolve the issue.
“If you still do not have power, please call the city at (225) 687-4796 to report your address,” officials said.
A spokesperson for Entergy confirmed that repairs were made at the substation that supplies power to the city. Meanwhile, a social media post from Plaquemine officials clarified that the city relies on Entergy’s lines for power even though it has its own electrical supplier.
City officials noted that Plaquemine is serviced by a different substation from other Entergy customers in the area, which is why some customers still had power during the outage.
This story is still developing, and more updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
