Shady Grady Lottery Win

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A Sharpsburg resident won $50,000 through the $50,000 CASH scratch-off game, according to the Maryland Lottery. The winner, known as ‘Shady Grady,’ purchased the winning ticket at Hub City Liquors located at 1063 Maryland Ave. in Hagerstown.

The lottery ticket caught Grady’s attention thanks to a banner that Hub City Liquors had displayed to celebrate a previous big win. ‘I would have gone right by the store, but that sign caught my attention,’ Grady told Lottery officials.

On May 15, 2025, Grady brought his winning ticket to Lottery headquarters. His hands shook as he passed the ticket to his wife for confirmation. ‘I didn’t trust what I was seeing,’ he recalled. Once she verified the ticket showed a $50,000 match, their excitement turned into hours of celebration marked by ‘joy, of course, but also nerves. And lots and lots of laughter.’

The couple plans to save and invest their winnings, according to Lottery representatives. Additionally, Hub City Liquors will receive a $500 bonus for selling the top-prize winning ticket.

This win marks the 96th top prize awarded in the $50,000 CASH scratch-off game, which began in December 2022 with a total of 160 top prizes. In 2023, Hub City Liquors sold a $2 million winning ticket to a Hagerstown woman and another $100,000 ticket to a Washington County resident.
