Jimmy Kimmel Becomes Grandfather on Daughter’s Birth Announcement

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night talk show host, announced the birth of his first grandchild Tuesday during his monologue on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Kimmel, 57, shared the news that his daughter, Katie Kimmel, and her husband, Will Logsdon, welcomed a daughter named Patti on May 19.
Kimmel revealed Katie’s pregnancy in a surprising way earlier this year at the Disney upfronts, joking about selling his grandchild’s naming rights. This made him the first sitting late-night host to become a grandparent.
Kimmel had Katie when he was 23 years old with his ex-wife, Gina Kimmel. The announcement places Kimmel, who is relatively young by late-night standards, ahead of other hosts like Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart, who are older and not yet grandparents.
Several other notable late-night figures, such as David Letterman and Jay Leno, continued hosting into their sixties without becoming grandparents. Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, who are among the youngest hosts on network television, also lack grandchildren.
The late-night television landscape has seen few grandparent hosts. Johnny Carson, who hosted “The Tonight Show,” had a grandson during his time, but family complications surrounded that birth.
Kimmel’s announcement brought joy to fans, with many offering congratulatory messages, including tips for new parents.
