Severe Weather In Atlanta May 2025

ATLANTA, Georgia — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is currently in effect for most of metro Atlanta and surrounding counties, remaining active until midnight on Monday.

As of 10 p.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service has warned of potentially tornadic storms moving into DeKalb and Gwinnett counties. Earlier, severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett counties, which remain in effect until 9:15 p.m.

Previously at 8:30 p.m., warnings were also noted for Cherokee, Bartow, and Pickens counties. Multiple areas are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch, affecting counties such as Gwinnett, Haralson, Bartow, and Douglas.

At this time, North Georgia EMC reports that many customers are experiencing power outages, with Georgia Power indicating about 600 affected in the region. Crews are working tirelessly to restore service.

Importantly, residents are urged to seek shelter immediately if located in areas under tornado warnings, as radar has confirmed severe thunderstorm activity that may spawn tornadoes.

The storms have produced damaging winds reaching up to 70 mph, along with moderate hail and heavy rain leading to potential localized flooding.

In summary, severe weather is expected to persist into Memorial Day, with forecasts predicting continued threats of damaging winds and downpours. Authorities advise the public to monitor real-time updates for safety measures.

Stay alert as another wave of severe storms could hit Monday night, primarily between 9 p.m. and midnight.
