Deputy Killed in Shooting While Responding to Domestic Call in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A sheriff’s deputy in Morrow County was shot and killed Monday evening while responding to a report of a domestic disturbance. The incident occurred just south of Marengo on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025.
Morrow County Sheriff John Hinton confirmed that both the deputy and the suspect were shot during the encounter at a residence on County Road 26. The deputy was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The suspect was also taken to the hospital and is in serious condition.
<p>“There are no words to express the pain being felt by our office today,” Sheriff Hinton said during a press conference early Tuesday morning.
The sheriff’s office has not yet identified the deputy who lost his life or the suspect involved in the shooting. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Residents in the area should expect continued law enforcement presence as the investigation unfolds. County Road 15 has also been blocked between State Route 161 and State Route 212 due to the ongoing investigation.
This tragic event marks the second death of an Ohio sheriff’s deputy in May. Earlier this month, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Henderson was killed while directing traffic.
