Ava Moore Kayaking Jet Ski Accident

GRAPEVINE, Texas – An 18-year-old woman died after being struck by a jet ski while kayaking on Grapevine Lake on Sunday. Ava Renee Moore was kayaking when she was hit, and authorities are now searching for the individual responsible.

Moore was injured in the collision just after 5 p.m. near Oak Grove Park. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead due to severe head trauma. The Texas Game Wardens and Grapevine police are investigating the incident and are seeking the public’s help in identifying the jet ski operator who fled the scene.

Family members have expressed their devastation over Moore’s death, stating that their family will never be the same. They have made appeals on social media for information about the jet ski driver, who was operating the watercraft with a passenger when the incident occurred.

Witness Lisa Scrabeck rendered aid to Moore after she was pulled from the water. Scrabeck confirmed that Moore was wearing a life jacket at the time and expressed her deepest condolences to the grieving family. “It’s very tragic, and I extend my deepest condolences to the family,” Scrabeck told CBS News Texas.

Authorities reported that the driver of the jet ski fled the scene with a man but left behind the passenger, who stayed to communicate with officers. Police are also investigating a hit-and-run crash involving the man and another vehicle shortly after they left the lake.

Ava Moore had aspirations of joining the U.S. military and was just weeks away from starting basic training. Her basketball coach at the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School, Ke’sha Blanton, shared fond memories of Moore, describing her as a bright star who inspired others. “They took a bright, bright star from our lives,” said Blanton.

Investigators continue to review details of the incident, including the nature of the relationship between the individuals in the jet ski and whether any legal requirements were violated by operating it. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Grapevine Police Department.
