Weekend Forecast: Heat and Storms Expected Across Multiple States

RALEIGH, North Carolina — A typical June weekend is on the way, but with the potential for late-day storms. As temperatures approach 90 degrees, the heat index is expected to rise near 100°F. Residents are advised to stay aware of the changing weather conditions and keep an eye on the radar through the evening.
Eastern North Carolina (ENC) is under a level 2 risk for severe weather on both Saturday and Sunday. This risk spans 14 states, making it possible that not all areas will experience storms. Meteorologists note that during this time of year, storms often cluster, making it challenging to predict their exact locations until they form.
“There’s a chance some spots in ENC could remain storm-free over the weekend,” said a meteorologist at the local weather station. Energy levels will peak in the afternoon, leading to quick storm development that could bring lightning and strong winds. The best chances for storms are expected after 5 PM, with storms dissipating or moving off the coast by midnight.
Meanwhile, temperatures will climb into the mid-90s this weekend, with the heat index values reaching between 100-105°F each afternoon. Despite the chances of storms, the overall coverage is expected to be low, but some could be severe with damaging winds, hail, and even isolated tornadoes possible.
“Stay weather aware this weekend,” officials urged residents, encouraging them to download the WITN First Alert Weather App for live radar updates and alerts.
As the weekend progresses, active weather is set to continue into next week, with daily chances of showers and thunderstorms.
