Bogotá, Colombia – Colombian Senator Miguel Uribe Turbay was shot on Saturday afternoon during a campaign event in Fontibón, Bogotá. The attack occurred around 5 p.m. as he was addressing supporters.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailant approached Uribe from behind and fired multiple shots, hitting him in the head and neck. Video footage from the scene captured the moments of the attack, showing attendees rushing to his aid as he fell to the ground.

Uribe was quickly transported to Clínica Colombia and is currently in critical condition. His team has stated that his medical status is being kept confidential until the family provides further information.

Mayor of Bogotá Carlos Fernando Galán confirmed that the suspected shooter has been apprehended. Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez announced a $3 million peso reward for anyone who can provide information leading to additional arrests.

This violent act has drawn widespread condemnation from various political figures. President Gustavo Petro expressed solidarity with Uribe’s family on social media, highlighting the ongoing threat to political leaders in Colombia.

The Venezuelan ambassador and Bogotá’s mayor both issued statements decrying the incident, emphasizing the need for calm and justice in addressing political violence.
