Violence Erupts Amid WorldPride Celebrations in Dupont Circle

Washington, D.C. – A shooting and a double stabbing are under investigation in the Dupont Circle neighborhood during the WorldPride DC festivities. The violence occurred as the area was buzzing with activities for the weekend’s Pride events.
A man sustained a gunshot wound to the foot in the 1300 block of 19th Street NW on Saturday evening. Following the incident, the 19th Street entrance to the Dupont Circle Metro Station was closed for an investigation, while the Q Street entrance stayed open.
Video footage captured chaotic scenes, showing people rushing toward and over the faregates at the Dupont Circle Metro Station after the shooting. Just moments before that incident, two men were stabbed at Massachusetts Avenue and Dupont Circle, and their conditions are currently unknown.
Authorities closed Dupont Circle at Connecticut Avenue, Massachusetts Avenue, New Hampshire Avenue, 19th Street, 20th Street, and P Street as part of the investigation. Metro service returned to normal by 10 p.m. that evening. The relationship between the shooting and the stabbings remains unclear.
Earlier, the National Park Service announced the closure of Dupont Circle Park at the request of D.C. police and U.S. Park Police. This decision faced significant backlash from local residents and community leaders. Despite the pushback, Park Police insisted on the closure, citing disruptive behavior during previous Pride celebrations. An 8-foot-high fence was erected around the park on Thursday but was removed Saturday morning just before the Pride Parade.
